Goldie's Last
Years Were Golden
by ANC Staff and Petfinder.com
Heidi Willie was surfing Petfinder.com when
she noticed a courtesy post on the pet list of Meriden Humane
Society, where she volunteers. The post was for a senior female
bulldog/boxer mix, Goldie, who had been abandoned by her owners,
and it was marked 'Urgent'.
"She was in danger of being euthanized
because of her fearfulness and her age," said Heidi, who lives
in Colchester, CT.
The following Saturday, Heidi and her husband
set up an appointment to meet Goldie.
"She was shaking and shivering in a
corner," Heidi said. "She was so scared, confused and depressed
because she had been dumped by her family."
The Willies fell in love with Goldie and took
her home that day.
"It took awhile for her to come out
of her shell in her new home with us, but she soon learned
that a dog's life in the Willie household is that of royalty,"
Heidi said.
Goldie passed away two years after being adopted.
"We taught her that not all people abandon
their precious pets when they become inconvenient," Heidi
said. "Goldie had the best two years of her life while she
was with us. Just knowing that makes the short time we had
with her so worth it for us."

In 1998, The American Society for Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) partnered with the site to provide
shelter outreach and an extensive library of pet-related materials.
Petfinder.com has also allied with PetHealth,
Inc., to provide a gift of two months of ShelterCare Pet Insurance,
paid for by Petfinder.com, to every dog or cat adopted from
a Petfinder.com member in approved states and provinces. The
program is the first of its kind for shelter pets.
